Turkey Travel Itinerary
Day 1 Istanbul
Arrive in the ancient Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey. The vibrant city combines old with new with the traditional versus the modern. After settling in, head out to the Galata Bridge in the evening for dinner and drinks in the many bars and restaurants along the waterfront.
Day 2 Gallipoli
The Büyük Istanbul Otogar bus terminal in Istanbul operates bus routes to popular locations. Get a bus to the Gallipoli peninsula to visit the important WWI battlefields. To learn about the tragic history of this area, join a guided bus tour to see the best spots. If you’re a good hiker you can visit the highpoints of the site on foot in a day, using taxis to start and end. Afterwards, make your way to the town of Çanakkale a good starting point to visit the ruins of Troy.
Day 3 Troy
Visit the ruins of Troy and marvel at the story behind this great site. The city of Troy was only discovered in the 19th Century, it is thought to have been the centre of ancient civilisations over 4,000 years ago. After sight seeing take a local boat cruise for a relaxing afternoon of swimming in the turquoise waters, for which Turkey earned its name from.
Day 4 Ephesus
In the morning, spend a few hours strolling around Ephesus, one of the best well preserved Roman archaeological sites in the world. Afterwards, check out the remains of the Temple of Artemis – one of the Seven Wonders of the World!
Day 5 Selçuk
Explore the relaxed old city of Selçuk. Have a bite to eat in one of the many cafés and restaurants before heading up to the hilltop to enjoy the scenery from the Basilica of St John which towers over the city.
Day 6 Pamukkale
Discover the unusual white cliffs of Pamukkale (meaning ‘cotton castle’) that are formed by limestone filled thermal springs where you can bathe in. if you have time, explore the adjacent ruins of Hierapolis before heading back to the bright lights of Istanbul.
Day 7 Istanbul
Enjoy the rest of Istanbul’s sights by foot to discover more of this fascinating city. Spend the day exploring the lavishly decorated Tokapi Palace, the iconic Aya Sofya mosque, or perhaps head to the Grand Bazaar for some last minute shopping for souvenirs.
